Train your brain!

Train your brain!

Just like our body, we can also improve our mind through exercise. The more we do so, the better we become. Below please find 5 simple ways that can contribute to improving our memory.

1) Don't be passive

This can be a particular problem for those living by themselves. Research has indicated that there may be a greater incidence of Alzheimer's among people who just passively sit and watch the TV. Have a conversation instead, or even do a computer related activity where you're interacting. You'll be more alert because you're evaluating and responding all the time, which means your brain is working very quickly to process information.

2) Put things into context

If you have to remember an important date, imagine what you were doing at the time, where you were living. You will remember more efficiently if you're in the right mindset.

3) Make what you need to remember significant

If you want to remember something difficult, like a series of random numbers, give it an importance it doesn't deserve - turn your bank pin number into a family member's birthday, for example, or use a meaningful anniversary.

4) Visualise what you need to remember

We're very bad at thinking in the abstract, so if you're trying to remember what you need when you go shopping - bread, milk, cheese, etc. - imagine a loaf of bread, imagine the cheese, if you have a picture in your mind it becomes much easier to recall.

5) Stimulate your brain with new experiences

A super way to keep the brain active, is to learn another language. It's socially useful and it's interesting because you can feel like a different person. It's also easy to judge if you're doing well because you can tell instantly if someone else understands you.
